PURPOSE/ABOUT US
NM WORKING TOGETHER FOR ADOLESCENT HEALTH
Our hope is build communication, collaboration and networks. The Youth Health Link (YHL) website and the E-Newsletters/E-Updates are the first step to bridging this gap and elevating the importance of adolescent health in New Mexico.
Working with young people requires a paradigm shift from viewing young people as future citizens to viewing young people as today's citizens, with the capacity to effect change when given adequate supports and opportunities...
It requires a breakdown of stereotypes that both adults and young people have about each other. The breakdown of stereotypes can occur through positive interactions encountered as adults and young people work together as a team to achieve goals. GUIDING PRINCIPLES & VALUES: To improve adolescent health at all levels of the Socio-Ecological Model (individual, family/peer, school/community and policy) by integrating both the Positive Youth Development and Public Health Approach. All these need to be linked to resources.
The Youth Health Link website is to serve as a central place for adolescent health information. This website will be a one stop-shop portal for youth health information, linking numerous websites and resources for youth and youth partners to access. The Youth Health Link is a significant way to improve effectiveness, efficiency and bridge the gaps across NM such as; resources, communication, information, services and opportunities to work together.
A vital part of Adolescent Health in New Mexico is for all youth to feel they have a future and support system's that are concerned about their health and well being.
All youth in New Mexico should have the right to be happy, healthy, safe, and to know the consequences of their actions, whether positive or negative. Young people should have the right to pursue an education, not only high school, but college—no matter the circumstances. Youth also deserve to feel like they have a future and support system.
Partner with youth and adults to advocate and cultivate the physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, social and educational fundamentals of youth health in New Mexico.
Good health of young people are vital and significant in order to increase capacity and development of youth involvement today and in the future. This is accomplished through providing the following outcomes:
- Safe and supportive environments
- Skills, motivation and opportunities to learn all the time (academically and professionally);
- Opportunity to fully participate as valuable members of their communities.
These outcomes will prepare youth to assume adult roles in their families, communities and work environments.
